I chose this studies as I wanted to improve my English and I wanted to know more about European Union and European Integration. I definitely enjoy spending time here. I met new friends, lecturers are great and you can get along with them. I fully recommend European Studies at KUL if you are interested in how EU law works, what was the history of European Integration, but also it is a great opportunity to improve your English and meet people from other countries 🙂

Hi! I’m Emilia, 23 years old — a Polish student who grew up in Belgium. I’ve always loved languages and been passionate about law and European relations. I’ve been searching for a study program that combines both -so picking European Studies in English at the Faculty of Law, Canon Law and Administration at KUL was the perfect match for me.

Lublin is a great student city, and the European Studies program in English at KUL seemed like a very promising choice to me. What I enjoy the most at our University is the positive atmosphere during classes and the supportive academic staff. On top of that, the professors are knowledgeable, kind, open to discussions and always ready to help.

The learning conditions are of a very high standard. We explore practical topics like how EU institutions function, basic international law, we discuss about EU international relations and tools to apply EU law in real-life cases. I’d definitely recommend these studies to anyone interested in the European Union, it’s legal system and if you are considering a future career in international or EU structures, you will not regret your choice!

My Experience Studying in Poland at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin

My name is Jennifer Abodei, and I’m from Nigeria. I’m currently in my second year at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, studying European Studies, under the Faculty of Law, Canon Law, and Administration.

Why I Chose to Study in Poland

What first attracted me to study here was the affordable tuition fees which was a huge plus. But beyond that, I also liked the fact that some courses are taught in English, and I simply wanted a better and broader educational experience. I’ve lived all my life in Nigeria, including doing my first degree there, so I was really curious to step out of my comfort zone, to explore other continents and experience a different style of learning and I decided to start with Europe, precisely Poland.

Life in Poland

Since I arrived in October, 2023, I’ve mostly been based in Lublin, and I must say, I absolutely love it here. If you’re someone who enjoys nature and calm environments, Poland is the place for you. It’s one of the most peaceful countries in Europe, and that’s not just from my perspective, my friends living in other cities here in Poland, say the same. Security here is great. You can be out at night even as late as 12 am and still feel completely safe. The people are also very kind. Although the main language is Polish and not everyone speaks English, that’s going to be a little challenging but people here are generally really helpful. If you are ever confused or need directions, even if they don’t speak English well, they are kind and make an effort, which really makes a difference. Studying at the Faculty of Law, Canon Law, and Administration Studying here has been a wonderful experience. The university environment is so inspiring. Unlike back home, where going to class sometimes feels like a chore, here I genuinely look forward to it. Most of the lecturers are professors and doctors, they are highly qualified and well-trained, and they teach in English, so you’re never left confused. The learning style here encourages interaction, both with classmates and professors. We’re often given assignments that involve class presentations, and that really helps build confidence. It pushes you to express your ideas clearly, organize your thoughts, and overall become a better version of yourself. The classrooms are well-equipped with modern facilities, comfortable desks, clean environments, and the technology needed to support learning. Our class sizes are small, which means everyone knows each other, and even the lecturers know you by name. This makes the classes very interactive and personalized. One thing I especially appreciate is how supportive the academic system is. For example, if you don’t do well in an exam or aren’t satisfied with your score, you’re usually allowed to retake the exam. That’s something that really shows they care about students actually learning and succeeding, not just passing. The school also offers flexibility in tuition payments. If you’re not able to pay your fees by the deadline, you can write to the school requesting an extension, like a one-month delay and they’ll usually grant it, depending on your reason. That kind of understanding really eases the pressure. Another thing I love is that you’re allowed to work part-time while studying. The school schedule isn’t so packed that it’s impossible to work. If you’re determined and organized, you can definitely balance both work and school. There are also free skill acquisition programs available to students, and you can apply to learn different skills at no cost. Plus, if you do well academically after your first year, you can apply for scholarships that are paid to you monthly until you finish your studies. Overall, I’d say the learning conditions here are excellent, and my experience so far has been incredibly positive. I’ve noticed real changes in myself since I arrived. Compared to my former self, I’ve become more confident and outspoken. I’ve actually been encouraging my friends and family back home to consider studying here, because I want them to enjoy the same opportunities and environment that I’ve experienced. I know that getting a visa can be a challenge sometimes, but if you’re considering migrating to Europe or studying abroad, Poland is a great option. Just try. And once you get your visa and come here, I promise you won’t regret it.

Studying at KUL in English has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding. Coming from Georgia, I wanted to deepen my understanding of European politics, law, and history while engaging with diverse perspectives. When I discovered the European Studies program, I was immediately drawn to it, and in the end, KUL turned out to be the perfect choice.

One of the things I appreciate most is the balance between theory and practice. European Studies allows me to connect political science, economics, law, and international relations, giving me a well-rounded perspective on European affairs. At the same time, studying legal subjects in English has sharpened my ability to think critically and analyze issues from different angles. A key advantage of studying here is the interactive approach—professors don’t just share their expertise, they actively encourage discussions, critical thinking, and practical applications of legal concepts. Instead of simply memorizing facts, we are challenged to question ideas, debate different viewpoints, and apply what we learn to real-world issues, making the learning process far more engaging.

While studying at KUL requires dedication, it also provides valuable insights and skills that extend beyond the classroom. For anyone interested in law, politics, or international relations, this is a place that pushes you to think critically and explore complex issues from multiple perspectives. I highly recommend it.
